Famous tree felled: Suspect complains of more problems than “if he had committed murder”

British lumberjack suspected of driving a chainsaw through Britain’s iconic Sycamore Gap tree who appeared in the film ‘Robin Hood’ was reportedly forced to walk around in a blonde wig to avoid being recognized on the street .

“Whoever did this will be sentenced to 10 years in prison because of a tree. People walk past me and look at me like I’m shit. If I had committed murder I would have less to worry about, you know that?” Walter Renwick, 69, complained to The Sunday Times, according to The Independent.

The sixty-year-old, who was arrested in late September in connection with the felling of Hadrian’s Wall’s iconic tree, said on Sunday that he was now forced to hide his identity under a blonde Rod Stewart wig to avoid being struck by lightning British media.

But the bailed former logger, who describes himself as “one of the most boring people in the world”, continues to insist on his innocence and says he was just listening to Netflix at the time the tree was allegedly put up.

He added to the Sunday Times that he heard the news from his brother the following evening.

Nearly three weeks since a tree stump replaced the famous tree featured in the 1991 film Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, no suspect has been formally charged with the crime and investigations are ongoing, according to The Independent.
