Fashion Week: Dior's lesson in elegance – Paris Match

Set to the music of Max Richter, who revisits the dance of the knights from Sergei Prokoviev's ballet Romeo and Juliet, the collection and its staging were intended as a double homage: to Colin Jones, the designer's uncle, who was a ballet dancer in the 1960s The photographer went to the great Rudolf Nureev, who, camera in hand, documented every aspect of an ordinary day in his extraordinary life. A book with these photos awaited the audience on the benches in the room.

A new vision of masculinity

The world of dance allows Kim Jones to continue her redefinition of the Dior man by borrowing from the female archives of the Dior fashion house. Inspired by the legendary bar suit, he created a new cut of a wrap-closure suit jacket from the start, of which he delivers a new interpretation in monochrome gray for next winter, which is both sophisticated and particularly flexible, giving an elegant, long cut on the floor and is almost reminiscent of the net coverings that dancers wear during their rehearsals.

There is also the Trapèze line, invented by the young Yves Saint Laurent in 1958 as a successor to Mr. Dior, whose slits and volumes gave new impetus to tailoring. The collection combines short suits, slightly flared trouser lines, double-breasted jackets fastened with a single button to brighten the silhouette… the lines combine elegance and purity.

The wool jackets take on soft shapes, while a second pair of sleeves hang from the waist and can be tied neatly around the body for extra warmth. A zip-up jumpsuit in ribbed wool, also equipped with a double pair of sleeves. A duffle coat style jacket and a leather jacket, also with a zip, offer a combination of beautiful materials and comfort.

Couture combined with the masculine

Oscillating between everyday wear and pieces of unparalleled richness, the collection pays homage to Rudolf Nureyev's stage outfits and the house's haute couture roots.

Here, a sparkling coat and jumpsuit ensemble fully embroidered with black crystals, as well as spectacular silk kimonos, including one that is a reinterpretation of her silver kimono, made by the same Japanese artisans who created the original for the “White Raven.” “, a coat whose silver threads outline a corset belt that supports the waist, reminiscent of Christian Dior's iconic bar jacket. The inspiration from dance can also be found in fabric ballerina flats decorated with the Dior Cannage pattern.
