Fatal accident: women fell from cable car Tirol

Two South Tyrolean women, aged 83 and 55, fell seven meters from a ski lift in the Seiser Alm ski area in South Tyrol on Thursday morning for reasons that are still unclear. The eldest did not survive the accident, the youngest was taken by plane to Bolzano hospital with serious injuries.

The accident happened at around 11 am, near the “Gold Knopf” elevator valley station, just after the third lift stop. The cause of the accident is still unclear: both women were or are experienced skiers. The carabinieri carried out numerous interviews with skiers who had been in the area. Despite resuscitation attempts, the 83-year-old man died at the scene of the accident.

The railway has now been reopened and investigations are ongoing, according to Helmut Sartori – General Director of Railway Seiser Alm. In addition to rescue helicopters, mountain rescue and carabinieri were also mobilized.
