Another fiery crash occurred in the crash near Mugu Rock in June, killing a 51-year-old man.

According to the Ventura County Star, the victim drove into PCH in a 2016 Range Rover around 6 p.m. when he pulled his vehicle off the freeway after missing a corner.

Officials at the time said the car was thrown into the air before rolling down the side of a mountain and catching fire.

The 51-year-old flew out of the vehicle on impact and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Nobody else was hurt.

PCH’s narrow trail was also the cause of a burning wreckage in February 2020 after a car carrying two passengers fell off a cliff near Big Sur.

Another driver was driving along the highway around 4.40am when he saw what he believed to be a brush fire.

Firefighters were working to put out the blaze when they later determined that a car was responsible for the fire and at least one person was inside.

At the time, investigators did not assume that alcohol or drugs could have been involved in the crash.

As Big Sur Fire, USFS Los Padres, and Cal-Fire Hand worked to put out the blaze, they determined that the vehicle appeared to be the source of the fire
