A “Friends” guest star whose character was set to have an affair with Matthew Perry’s Chandler Bing said Perry cut the scene the day before filming. (Watch the video below.)
“I was told that [Perry] went to the writers and said the audience would never forgive him for cheating on Monica, which he was probably right about,” Lisa Cash told TMZ in an interview published early Monday. “That might have changed the course of the show and his character.”
Cash said they fully rehearsed the scene for the 1999 episode, which was set in Las Vegas. After Chandler and Monica Geller (Courteney Cox) had an argument, a solo Chandler was supposed to order room service and bonded so well with the waiter, played by Cash, that they had a date.
Cash was grateful that she ultimately landed a less significant role as a flight attendant, but she said she wonders how her original role may have affected her career. “It could have been kind of a game changer,” she said.
To date, Cash has racked up a total of 18 credits, according to IMDb, but a possible breakup from one of the most famous couples in sitcom history would have certainly brought her notoriety.
Still, she fondly remembers the time she worked with Perry.
“I was new to the industry and it could have been really intimidating for me – like the fifth season of ‘Friends’ and a scene with Matthew Perry!” she told TMZ. “But I just felt so comfortable, and he was really personable and welcoming and just made me feel comfortable… It was just really fun to do the scene with him.”
Perry was found dead in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home on October 28. HuffPost has reached out to the producers of “Friends” for comment.
