A 33-year-old man from Toledo, Ohio, sprayed two people with an unknown substance outside a synagogue in Washington on Sunday while shouting “Gas the Jews.”
Brent Wood approached the victims in front of the Kosher Israel congregation before pulverizing them by angrily spitting the anti-Semitic slur.
No one was injured and it is unclear whether the victims were associated with the synagogue, the New York Post reported Monday.
The suspect was arrested for assault and his vehicle was searched as a precaution, but police found no weapons or dangerous materials, local police said.
The incident is being investigated by police, who may file hate crime charges, it said.
This Sunday's attack comes against the backdrop of increasing anti-Semitic acts related to the ongoing war between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas.
