The boldness of his youth and undeniable love of medicine are Dr. Gerson Vázquez Blanco.

He arrived in Venezuela at just 25 to serve on his first internationalist mission, and today, at age 29, the physiatrist at the Sol de Taguanes Comprehensive Diagnostic Center in Tinaquillo, Cojedes state, continues to sow health and reap friends.

According to his own statements, he arrived with a degree in physiatry in 2018, shortly after graduating as a doctor. “However, during the scourge of the pandemic, I was in the red zone helping my colleagues and the people of Venezuela. It was a very nice experience for me.”

Curiosity and the desire to learn are also part of Gerson’s characteristics. Therefore, he took every opportunity to grow professionally and discover new ways to heal Venezuelans.

“A few months ago I completed a course to master the ozone therapy treatment that we offer to patients recovering from Covid-19 and now to others who manage to eradicate their pathologies with this rehabilitation technique.”

Tinaquillo’s physiatrist attends daily to people who trust in the effectiveness of physical rehabilitation and who benefit from the free treatment that he and his colleagues offer them as part of the Cuban medical mission. In his practice and in life, Dr. Gerson deal with complex cases.

“The most difficult are tetraplegics, especially those who arrive after prolonged immobility. We cannot always fully rehabilitate them, as is the case with children whose disabilities are recognized late. It is therefore important to seek specialist intervention as soon as possible.”

Brave by nature, doctor Gerson Vázquez Blanco of Artemisa continues to sow health and reap friends in Venezuela. There’s still plenty of relief to be had in his physical therapy consultation at CDI Sol de Taguanes in Cojedes state.

“I will be here for as long as I am needed to honor our commitment to our work and to love our profession and our people.”
