Greta Thunberg fined for the second time BR24

Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg has been fined for the second time for defying police orders during a protest against the oil industry.

Fine of 390 euros for disobeying the police

The 20-year-old was sentenced on Wednesday by the Malmö District Court to pay 90 daily fees of 50 SEK for disobeying police authorities. This corresponds to a total of just under 390 euros and three times the value of your first fine. She also has to pay 1,000 crowns (87 euros) to a fund to support victims of violence.

How Thunberg justified her protest

In court, Thunberg wore a T-shirt with the slogan “Stand Up For Science.” She rejected any criminal action. As the newspaper “Aftonbladet” reported in court, Thunberg justified her actions by saying that the climate crisis is a crisis that threatens health and life. She said the industry that committed the crime of causing the climate crisis was harmed.

Blocked oil tanker

Thunberg had already been fined in Malmö on July 24 for not following police instructions during a protest at the southern Swedish city’s oil port. A few hours later, she took part in another very similar climate protest at the port, where oil tankers were blocked again – this is the action for which she has now been condemned. She did not respond to police requests to clear the street at the time.
