In his first major TV series role, Harrison Ford has signed on to star alongside Jason Segel in Shrinking, the 10-episode comedy series on Apple TV+ written and executive produced by Segel and Ted Lasso’s co-creator/executive producer/showrunner Bill Lawrence and star/writer/producer Brett Goldstein.
Produced by Warner Bros. Television, Shrinking follows a grieving therapist (Segel) as he begins to break the rules and tell his clients exactly what’s on their mind. Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making big, tumultuous changes in people’s lives… including his own.
Ford, who joins Shrinking after lengthy negotiations, will become Dr. Play Phil Rhodes, a down-to-earth, sharp-witted “Blue Collar Shrink,” blunt but with an ever-present wink. Phil is a pioneer in cognitive behavioral therapy who over the years has built a successful practice which he shares with his two young protégés, Jimmy and Gaby. Fiercely independent, Phil has recently been diagnosed with Parkinson’s, which forces him out of his comfort zone as he grapples with pushy friends, his estranged family and his legacy.
Shrinking is produced by Warner Bros. Television and Lawrence’s studio Doozer Productions. Segel, Lawrence and Goldstein are executive producers alongside Doozer’s Jeff Ingold and Lizakatzer.
Ford, who last appeared in the feature film Call of the Wild, will take on the title role in director James Mangold’s upcoming Indiana Jones 5. He is represented by UTA and Ziffren Brittenham.
