High temperatures in the United States have killed about 2,000 cattle in the state of Kansas. The cattle could not endure the sudden rise in temperature. This had never been observed before.
Shocking images in Kansas, USA. Thousands of dead cattle. Their carcasses were lined up by their desperate breeders. Their number is still being determined. In light of these sudden deaths, Kansas Agricultural Services say they see no explanation other than extreme heat. A rancher in another part of Kansas who has not yet lost any cattle thinks this could be the cause. “I’ve never seen anything like it. You can lose a few heads, but never to this extent. Colleagues told me that there was a very sudden increase in heat and that it was more than 40°C in the middle of the night,” reports Greg Peterson.
The phenomenon remained localized in certain areas. The animals could not have cooled down at night, their internal temperatures rose dangerously. Cattle are not used to such temperatures. Many breeders fear that this phenomenon will occur again.
