Ty Pennington, the host of HGTV shows Rock the Block and Battle on the Beach, shared on Instagram that he is recovering from a neck abscess that took him to the intensive care unit at a Colorado hospital.

Pennington’s airway was blocked, necessitating intubation. His condition emerged just two days after attending the Barbie premiere in Los Angeles.

Pennington is also the former host of Trading Spaces and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

“From the red carpet to the ICU… the last week has been interesting! I’m fine now, still recovering,” he wrote. “To shed some light on why I was missing… Sunday I walked the red carpet for @barbiethemovie; Monday I flew to Colorado to start filming in Breckinridge and Tuesday morning I woke up at 4am and could hardly breathe. It turns out that the sore throat I’ve had for the past month was actually an abscess that had grown so large it was blocking my airway.”

He continued, “The next thing I know, I was intubated and flown to the intensive care unit in Denver,” he continued. “On Wednesday I had an operation and yesterday afternoon I was discharged from the intensive care unit. Thank you to all the amazing staff at St.Anthony’s in Lakewood, CO and Summit Health in Frisco for taking such great care of me. A great reminder to listen to your body when it tells you something #justhappytobehere Also, it’s good to see that I was still in the right mood despite heavy sedatives (pic 4)…”

Pennington attended Sunday’s Barbie premiere to promote HGTV’s four-part special Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge. Competing on one of eight teams of HGTV stars, he will transform a Southern California home into a real-life version of Barbie’s pink palace.

The series premieres July 16 at 8 p.m
