In night attacks, Russians attempt to destroy Ukrainian air defense systems with drones and missiles

The Russians first fired missiles from the south and then attacked with Iranian-made Shahed “kamikaze” drones, Ukrainian forces reported.

“At the beginning of the night, with the help of tactical aviation from the Black Sea, the enemy tried to destroy our air defense system, for which they used Kh-31P missiles. But they were shot down over the sea,” Humenyuk said.

Following the missile strikes, the Russians launched two waves of drone strikes more than two hours apart.

“Initially, Shahed-131/136 kamikaze drones flew from Crimea towards the Dnipropetrovsk region through the Mykolaiv and Kherson regions. In the next wave, they tried to sneak through the temporarily occupied Kherson region into the central regions and then advance west,” the Southern Defense Forces reported.

A drone was shot down in the Dnipropetrovsk region.

Debris from a crashed drone damaged a power line in the Mykolaiv region.

Electricity was switched off in five settlements. Work is underway to restore power.

Air defense forces were also tested in the Kiev region.

According to regional authorities, there were no hits.

In total, the Russian army has deployed 18 Shaheds across Ukraine, Ukrainian forces reported.

16 of them were shot down by anti-aircraft defenses.

According to the Air Force, Russian attacks were thwarted in the Poltava, Kiev, Khmelnytskyi, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhia regions.
