Rams linebacker Bobby Wagner officially signed his contract on Monday. The details of the deal have officially arrived at PFT headquarters.
The deal is reported as a five-year, $50 million deal and will pay out $6.5 million in 2022, with an additional $3.5 million guaranteed in 2023.
More on this crease later. For now, the full details:
1. Signing Bonus: $5 million.
2. 2022 base salary: $1.5 million, fully guaranteed.
3. Roster Bonus for 90 players 2023: $3.5 million, fully guaranteed starting April 8, 2022.
4. 2023 base salary: $7.5 million.
5. 2024 90-Man Squad Bonus: $2.5 million guaranteed for signing injuries and fully guaranteed beginning day five of the 2023 league year.
6. 2024 base salary: $8.5 million.
7. Roster bonus for 90 players in 2025: $2.5 million.
8. 2025 base salary: $8 million.
9. Roster bonus for 90 players in 2025: $2.5 million.
10. 2026 base salary: $8.5 million.
The deal also includes three incentive packages, each with creative names. Agent Wagz Wally’s Wage Incentive pays out up to $2 million per year based on game time and team performance. To get the full amount, Wagner must participate in 90 percent or more of defensive snaps, the Rams must make the playoffs, and the final defensive rankings in net points allowed, net yards allowed, and net passing yards allowed per passing game must be better being the fifth worst in the league.
The Wage Wagz’s Colony Coin Incentive pays out $1 million per year if you’re an All-Pro from the start. Alternate: If he makes the Pro Bowl (original ballot) and the team improves its defensive ranking in total net yards allowed or net yards allowed per passing game, Wagner will be awarded $500,000.
Finally, Agent Wagz gives Archibald Ranch Au Revoir Void the player the right to pull the plug in the last three years of the deal if he plays 90 percent more defensively in 2022 and 2023 and the team makes it through the postseason every year. Alternatively, he can void the last three years of his contract if he makes it to the Pro Bowl (in the original vote) in 2022 and 2023.
The void probably won’t be necessary. For convenience, the Rams have signed Wagner to a one-year deal that may be worth as little as $6.5 million. If the Rams cut him before March 2023, he would be out with a $3.5 million guarantee — but the payment would be offset.
If he makes at least $3.5 million elsewhere in 2023, the Rams’ total financial exposure for one year of service would be limited to $6.5 million.
