Janis Joplin's vintage 1920s pool table is being auctioned on her 81st birthday and is expected to sell for up to $20,000

A piece of rock'n'roll history will soon be up for grabs – if the price is right.

A pool table owned and used by rock legend Janis Joplin in the late 1960s will soon be auctioned off at Julien Auctions.

The announcement of the sale of Joplin's personal 1920s Brunswick-Balke-Callender Co. Monarch Cushion 9' pool table actually coincides with her 81st birthday.

An avid lover of the game, Joplin could often be found playing pool and drinking beer in pool halls when he wasn't on stage or rehearsing, according to TMZ.

Eventually, the so-called Queen Of Rock purchased the vintage pool table and used it often after installing it in a room of her new home in Larkspur, California, in Marin County in 1969.

The pool table was said to have been used too much throughout the year – Joplin had it in her home until her death from a heroin overdose in October 1970.

In fact, Joplin herself called the table “the perfect touch” when describing to her friend Linda why she bought her new home, according to the auction's website.

Rolling Stone Magazine photographer Tony Lane, who later became the magazine's art director, took a series of photos of Joplin playing pool with friends at this table at her home.

In one of his pictures illustrating this lot, it appears that Creedence Clearwater Revival drummer Doug Clifford was at Joplin's side as she was about to take a shot.

It has remained in the same room in their California home for all these years since her death, so special arrangements must be made to arrange shipping of this table from Larkspur.

Joplin, who was known to play pool well, was one of the most successful and well-known rock artists of her time, due in part to her powerful mezzo-soprano vocals and “electric” stage presence.

She first gained fame in 1967 as the singer for the San Francisco psychedelic rock band Big Brother And The Holding Company, after a performance at the Monterey Pop Festival.

The group released two studio albums with Joplin at the microphone and two more as a solo artist, most recently Pearl (1971), which was released three months after her death from a heroin overdose on October 4, 1970.
