The police officer at the center of a manhunt for two missing men was arrested after handing himself in as investigators cordoned off a Newcastle street in search of a missing white van he had rented.

Constable Beau Lamarre-Condon, 28, was wanted by police for questioning after his ex-boyfriend, former Channel 10 presenter Jesse Baird, 26, and Baird's new partner Luke Davies, 29, disappeared from Paddington in Sydney's east on Monday night were.

Police have grave concerns for the couple's safety after a significant amount of blood was discovered at Baird's Paddington townhouse. The bloody discovery came after her belongings were found in a dumpster in Cronulla just after 11am on Wednesday.

Lamarre-Condon, also known as a celebrity stalker, disappeared in the wake of the two men's disappearances. He told his superiors that he was on sick leave and turned off his phone.

As police desperately searched for Lamarre-Condon and his rented white Toyota Hiace van on Friday morning, he turned himself in at Bondi police station at 10.30am.

At around midday a road in Lambton, Newcastle, 165km from the Paddington crime scene, was cordoned off by police after a white van was spotted on Karoola Road.

Police said the officer handed himself in to police at Bondi police station shortly after 10.30am on Friday.

A spokesman added: “The man is being taken to Waverley Police Station where inquiries are continuing.”

Police later confirmed to Chron Australia that he had been arrested, but the search for the van continues.

Investigators urged anyone who spotted the HiAce with NSW registration CW82PM to contact them immediately.

At the Balmain property in Sydney's inner west on Friday, relatives admitted they were “stressed” but declined further comment.

Mr Baird and Mr Davies went missing from the television producer's $3 million paddington rental home on Monday.

Mr Davies, 29, was dating Mr Baird, 26 – but the couple then disappeared and Mr Davies' family were unable to contact him.

CCTV footage from the couple's last known whereabouts shows them entering Mr Baird's home late on Monday evening.

The men were caught wandering around outside before making their way to the back of the patio. Then you see a white van driving nearby.

Neither man has been seen since, although Mr Baird's phone appeared to have last been active on WhatsApp on Tuesday evening.

A manhunt was launched after a pile of bloody clothing belonging to the couple was found in a large dumpster in the center of Cronulla, in Sydney's south, about 11am on Wednesday.

Police then rushed to Mr Baird's home in Paddington, where they found a “large amount of blood” and blood-stained furniture.

“Based on the investigation, investigators believe that a third person may be able to assist in the investigation,” the police said in a statement on Thursday evening.

“Detectives will continue to investigate all previous relationships and affiliations.”
