(CNN Spanish) –– “We’re going to get this thorn out no matter what,” Juanes told CNN this Friday after a free concert he offered Wednesday in New York’s Central Park was canceled due to crowds.
Juanes’ SummerStage concert – a series of free concerts on a stage in the iconic park – had a capacity of 5,000 people, but organizers say at least another 12,000 crowded outside the gates.
“Given the continued crowding outside the doors, and as a precautionary measure, it was decided to pause the show during the performance of their second song and fans were asked to vacate the venue,” Latin Alternative Music said in a statement from the conference and City Parks Foundation SummerStage.
They added that this is the first time in 30 years that a concert has had to be canceled for this reason.
“I take this opportunity to thank all the people who were there and showed that affection,” Juanes told CNN.
“I will of course return with more enthusiasm,” he added.
“To all the fans, I love you guys so much. “Thank you for the love New York and see you soon,” Juanes captioned via CNN.
Social network users regretted the cancellation, pointing out that the organization of better-known artists needed to be improved.
“It’s to be expected, Juanes is a great rock star in Spanish,” commented one user.
“Next time only with pre-registration,” posted another user.
