Kevin Costner and his estranged wife are at odds again – this time over what items she can move out of his Santa Barbara home while he’s on vacation with their kids.
Following a contentious divorce case, a Santa Barbara judge this month ordered Costner’s former partner, Christine Baumgartner, to move out of Costner’s expansive, $145 million, three-house private beachfront property in Santa Barbara until the end of July.
For now, a Santa Barbara judge limited the amount Baumgartner could remove from the actor’s home to toiletries, clothing, handbags and jewelry, according to new court documents filed Friday.
Baumgartner’s legal team had provided Costner’s team with a list of items to remove from the home before her move-out date in late July. Items included her peloton and her mother’s dresser. But a judge ruled Friday that she must restrain herself from taking those items.
“In preparation for my upcoming move from the Beach Club properties, I rented an off-site storage unit and began packing my personal items such as family heirlooms, clothing, my Peloton bike, assorted keepsakes and gifts from friends. Baumgartner wrote in a statement filed Thursday. “His apparent fear that I will level the house is completely unfounded.”
Baumgartner filed for divorce in May and the split was extremely acrimonious. At the heart of the case is a prenuptial agreement between the couple, which Baumgartner is contesting before the trial scheduled for November. On Wednesday, a judge ruled that Costner must pay her $129,000 in child support until the divorce is finalized.
The most recent files show how microscopic the dispute has become. The pair feuded over pots and pans, even though Costner made $19.5 million last year, Baumgartner’s attorneys argue.
Baumgartner added in her statement that she wanted to take her mother’s dresser, cutlery, pots and pans, and an oil painting of horses and a mother-daughter horse picture from Costner’s home in Aspen.
In the new filings, Costner’s team said the list of items provided by Baumgartner was “hopelessly vague and ambiguous” and that they needed more clarity and time to work out what their separate property was.
“She lists ‘Christine’s personal electronic information’ but does not specify what that means,” Costner’s attorneys wrote in a filing filed Thursday. “Is a TV a ‘personal’ electronics? Does it refer to household computers? Which?”
Costner’s attorneys added that he was on vacation with their children and had little access to WiFi, limiting his contribution to the matter. Costner has sought joint custody of the children throughout the split.
Attorneys for Costner and Baumgartner did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment.
Ultimately, the judge agreed with Costner’s side for the time being, saying that the parties must meet and deliberate to jointly determine what belongs to Baumgartner in his home.
