On the night of October 2-3, 2016, Kim Kardashian, then 36, was robbed by several men, some dressed as police officers, at a discreet luxury hotel in Paris, where she had come to attend Fashion Week. More than $6 million worth of jewelry was stolen and most of it was never found.
Two thieves threatened her with a gun to her head, then tied her up and gagged her.
“He asked me about my ring in a strong French accent,” she told police shortly after the theft. “You tied me up […] Then he carried me into my bathroom.” The young woman was then locked there.
Three other men stood guard at reception and a sixth was behind the wheel of a vehicle to ensure escape.
The robbers had taken several pieces of diamond and gold jewelry, including an 18.88-carat stone.
The group, described by police as a gang of “old-fashioned” thugs, is suspected of carrying out the largest robbery of an individual in France in the last twenty years.
Ten alleged members of the gang are being referred to the jury for the robbery or kidnapping of Ms Kardashian, while an eleventh is being referred only for another criminal scheme in which the judges suspected part of the gang to have participated after the scheme aimed at Ms Kardashian to have.
A twelfth person is charged with a related offense relating to a breach of the Weapons Act.
