The premiere of Last King of The Cross was a long-awaited event for Ibrahim, who has been working on the series for years.
The Last King of the Cross tells the story of Ibrahim’s rise to power in the Kings Cross nightclub scene in the 90’s and early 2000’s.
The 10-part series will tell the story of brothers John and Sam Ibrahim, who are prominent figures in Kings Cross’ nightclub district.
The series may also explore key events in John’s life, including surviving a near-fatal stabbing and other attempts on his life.
John has also praised Lincoln’s performance, saying it was “difficult to see” watching some scenes, adding that he portrayed him “extremely well”.
The Lebanese-born entrepreneur immigrated to Australia from Tripoli with his family as a young child before securing his first nightclub at 19.
Speaking to Stellar this week, actor Younes, 31, said he researched the nightclub owner and even visited his home to learn more about him before filming the series.
“I’m not impersonating him,” he said of the biopic.
“There is an essence I wanted to capture, the loneliness of being an immigrant, of being successful, of paving a path that had never been walked before,” he added.
Lincoln stated that he was invited to Ibrahim’s home for research purposes so that he could properly impersonate the role.
“You can learn a lot about a person just by being in their space. He’s charismatic, he’s open, he respects that I know what I’m doing. And that’s all I need,” he added.
John has been dating model Sarah Budge since 2015, whom he met after purchasing the Potts Point building where she ran a restaurant.
The couple gave birth to their first child together in August last year.
A friend of the couple confirmed Elvis’ birth to the Chron Australia in early September and the baby is believed to have arrived on August 31.
John has two other children from previous relationships, including a grown son, Daniel, and a seven-year-old child who he shares with his longtime boyfriend.
The Last King of the Cross has a budget of $50 million and will stream worldwide.
