The Montreal Alouettes have lost a key piece of their defense with Lwal Uguak making the jump to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The 23-year-old announced this on his social networks on Tuesday.
The defensive lineman was a first-round pick (seventh overall) by the Alouettes in the 2023 draft. The Belle Province club agreed to release him from his contract so he could join the Goodell circuit.
In his first and only season in the Canadian Football League, Uguak collected 17 tackles and four sacks. The Edmonton native was dominant during the Sparrows' playoff run. He made 11 tackles, including five during the Gray Cup game against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Uguak practiced in front of the Bucs staff on December 12th. He also received auditions with the New York Giants and Atlanta Falcons last May.
The Buccaneers' new member is the second key player in the Alouettes' conquest to leave the nest for the NFL. In fact, pass catcher Austin Mack recently signed a contract with the Falcons.
