Man dies after falling from 1,200 m in tourist attraction

A 33yearold man, who has not yet been identified, died after falling from 4,000 feet while visiting the Grand Canyon in the United States.

The man was on an attraction called the Skywalk when he fell. According to the Mohave County (Arizona) Sheriff’s Office, the accident happened around 9 a.m. on the 5th.

Two agents specializing in rope rescue flew to the scene of the accident aboard a helicopter. When they reached the man’s hardtoreach crash site, they found he was dead.

So far, the reason for the fall is unknown and local authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, according to USA Today.

Skywalk is a horseshoeshaped glass bridge that extends 21 meters over the canyon rim. Visitors can enjoy views of the Colorado River from the observation deck.

According to the National Park Service, the Skywalk is located in the Grand Canyon West area, which is outside of Grand Canyon National Park.

The bridge was designed to support the weight of 71 fully loaded 747 aircraft or more than 800 people each weighing 90 kilograms, although the maximum occupancy is only 120 people.

The attraction withstands winds of up to 100 miles per hour and magnitude 8.0 earthquakes. According to the Grand Canyon West website, more than 10 million visitors have visited the Skywalk since 2007.
