Martin Drainville: “When I did that, I was ashamed”

Martin Drainville was invited to the show TV children this week, offering the public the opportunity to revisit part of his great career.

However, at one point during his visit, the actor became upset as we prepared to unveil an excerpt from the 1989 Gémeaux Awards gala.

“I’ll explain the context. It's a week after the events at Polytechnique. The whole of Quebec didn't have the heart to laugh and neither did we. I'll start, I haven't been here long. Then I go there with all my naivety. Then I went to Polytechnic! When the murder occurred, I had friends who were still there, who had not witnessed the tragedy (…) I even had a memory of the corridors, I knew the places. If I hadn't been as old as I was at this gala, I would have dared to say: This is not the time to make jokes. It's not so much a matter of maturity that I didn't feel like I had the right to say that. There should have been people who…” testifies Martin, still visibly worried.

“What are we doing tonight? Should we watch it or not?” the moderator then asks him. Andre Robitaille.

“I would rather not see it (…) because it is linked to a moment in which I was very involved. In fact, I felt ashamed when I did it. “We should have closed the television, everyone, for a week, two weeks,” says Martin Drainville.

A memory that is obviously still very difficult for Martin, but also for an entire province.

The reason why the excerpt was ultimately not presented in this final episode of Children of TV out of respect for Martin.
