“The investment in these works amounts to more than 209 million bolivianos (US$30 million) for all components, inspection, monitoring, construction and of course the allocated economic resources once completed (…), in the audit,” explained the owner.
Montaño explained at a press conference that the investment in the construction of the bridge alone amounts to more than 167 million bolivianos ($24 million), with expenses including the 14-meter-wide double-track bridge and 40-meter-deep piles. and exclusive pedestrian access in both directions.
The day before, President Luis Arce began work on this new infrastructure.
“The fourth road will open to connect the Bolivian valley and the highlands of La Paz,” he stressed, emphasizing that the viaduct will shorten producers' travel to commercial centers by four hours.
He pointed out that producers would go through the bridge directly to Independencia and from Independencia to Vinto, Quillacollo or Tiquipaya.
“Today your national government comes to comply with the Inquisivi Province of La Paz and the Ayopaya Province of Cochabamba and we begin the construction of this bridge over the Sacambaya River,” Arce said.
The dignitary recalled that this bridge is a 209-year-old demand and that his executive branch will make it a reality with external funding and a bill that was rejected in the Legislative Assembly.
“Seven months ago we could have done the same thing, and now we could see the construction of this bridge in shell form (…),” he said.
According to the president, the bridge and its connection to Cochabamba and La Paz will be built in 750 days, with the Andean Development Corporation providing a loan of almost $30 million.
To meet this deadline, Arce asked residents of Inquisivi and Ayopaya provinces to act as supervisors and be informed of the project's progress.
“From La Paz they can get their products to Cochabamba in just a few hours. “There is no need to bypass Caracollo, we can travel directly and get directly to Vinto,” he commented.
The head of state regretted that other bills worth $825 million for works of social importance are “sleeping” in the Legislative Assembly.
According to the Ministry of Public Works, the Sacambaya Bridge will have a length of two kilometers, a width of 14 meters and pedestrian paths on the up and down lanes.
