MOSCOW, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) — Russia's Investigative Committee found that its Il-76 military aircraft was hit by a missile fired from the Kharkiv region, the committee said in a message on Telegram on Monday.
The committee said the investigation revealed that the anti-aircraft missile system used to attack the Il-76 aircraft was located in the city of Liptsy in the Kharkiv region.
He also pointed out that documents of the dead Ukrainian military personnel were found at the site of the plane crash in Belgorod.
On the other hand, Russian President Vladimir Putin said today that the missile that hit the Il-76 aircraft was apparently fired from an area controlled by the Ukrainian side.
The Ukrainian leadership knew that there were Ukrainian prisoners on board the plane, Putin said.
An Il-76 transport plane carrying 65 Ukrainian prisoners, six crew members and three companions crashed in Russia's Belgorod region on Wednesday.
