Moira Stuart, 74, collapses as former colleagues rush to the former newsreader's aid and call an ambulance during Angela Rippon's birthday party

It is believed Moira Stuart fell ill during her friend Angela Rippon's birthday party and an ambulance rushed to her aid on Monday evening.

The birthday bash was apparently suddenly cut short after the newsreader collapsed while enjoying the bash at the Hilton Hotel on Park Lane in London.

Moira, 74, was reportedly supported by her colleagues, including Louise Minchin and Michael Buerk, who rushed to her aid after the funny twist.

According to The Sun's source, the room was cleared for Moira, who apparently soon insisted she was fine after the “scary” episode.

Hotel staff are said to have called an ambulance to assess Moira after she fell while standing at the bar among other partygoers.

An onlooker said: “Moira took a strange turn as Angela's party got into full swing.” She had been in great spirits that evening and had spent time at the Hilton with Angela and Lulu, who was also a guest.

“It all happened very quickly and out of nowhere Moira, who was standing at the bar, fell to the floor.

“Louise and Michael looked after her and an ambulance was called just in case.” Web has contacted representatives for Moira for further comment.

The party was thrown by Angela as a belated celebration of her 79th birthday and the end of the Strictly Come Dancing tour.

The TV presenter appeared in the series of the BBC ballroom dancing competition last year and also took part in the live tour this year with her professional partner Kai Widdrington, 28.

Broadcaster Angela was the presenter of the BBC's original dance competition show Come Dancing between 1988 and 1991.

Angela finished the Strictly tour but suffered a health blow towards the end when a “severe asthma attack” left her unable to breathe.

In an Instagram post earlier this month, she said she was dancing on stage in Liverpool on Wednesday night when she suffered the “serious medical collapse”.

After being treated by paramedics at the scene, she explained that she was able to breathe again, but the doctor had ordered her to be in bed for two days, which resulted in her missing performances in Leeds.

Angela confirmed that she was “dance fit” again and took part in the tour again at the AO Arena in Manchester with her dance partner Kai.

During an interview in 2017, Moira revealed that she no longer drinks after having “alcohol problems.”

She told listeners of Chris Evans' Breakfast Show on Radio 2 in February 2017 that she particularly enjoys drinking at weddings.

However, due to health problems, she had to stop drinking.

At the time, Chris questioned Moira about Dry January, where drinkers abstain from alcohol for a month, and asked if she ever drank.

She replied, “Oh, I did.” Oh yes. That's what I did as a kid, yeah, I was notorious for running around at weddings and drinking from everyone.'

Chris replied: “It’s called demining.” You were an early minesweeper. And that put you off for life?'

Moira said, “Um, no.” I got into trouble with the alcohol and just left it alone. There were no hangovers, no migraines – alcohol doesn't help me, nor does cheese and chocolate. I'm telling you, it was rougher than hard.'
