A man went to the Starbucks branch on Münsterplatz in Ulm (Baden-Württemberg) on ​​Friday evening for a shift change and, according to police, detained one person. Initially there was talk of four hostages. The prosecutor confirmed several victims later in the evening. The first emergency call was received by the police control center at 6:50 p.m.

A large police force arrived immediately and cordoned off the city center around the cafe. A special operations command (SEK) was also on site. More than 100 onlookers gathered at the barriers. Police confirmed on Friday night: “At 8:20 p.m., the armed male attacker left the building with a hostage and fled.”

Suddenly, four shots were fired at the scene! People scattered in panic. The police shouted: “Everyone get out of here!”

According to a spokesperson, the shots were fired by police officers. “The perpetrator was arrested, the hostage was not injured.” The kidnapper, however, was injured by a gunshot and is currently admitted to a clinic.

He is said to have been in the Bundeswehr and carried several handguns and a long gun with him during the crime. Security circles say the perpetrator stated during the hostage taking that he wanted to be shot by the SEK.
