The action was staged by American photographer Spencer Tunick.
Nearly 1,000 Finns took to the streets and beaches of Kuopio naked early Saturday morning. The occasion was an art campaign by the American photographer Spencer Tunick, which is known for its mass photographs of nude people. “Today the land of 1,000 lakes has become the land of 1,000 naked people,” Tunick said.

The artistic action began at 3am in the parks of Kuopio, where people posed nude amid huge flower installations. It then departed for the beaches of central Finland’s city, where more gunfire followed.

Tunick has made a name for himself around the world with his naked actions. For example, last November, thousands of Australians posed for him, shirtless, on Sydney’s famous Bondi Beach to raise awareness of the risk of skin cancer.
