Next December, Netflix will release Matilda, a musical adaptation of the Roald Dahl novel adapted by Danny DeVito in 1996. During the casting, an Oscar-winner lends her facial features to the terrifying headmistress. And she is unrecognizable.
Roald Dahl’s universe continues to inspire Hollywood. While the character of Willy Wonka is set for his prequel starring Timothée Chalamet in 2023, a new adaptation of Matilda is hitting screens. The film, which is expected to hit Netflix next December, differs from the version produced by Danny DeVito in 1996 as it will be entirely musical.
The first images have been revealed by the platform, and in the shoes of the tyrannical school principal, Agatha Legourdin, we find Emma Thompson. A real chameleon, the unrecognizable Brit in the costume of the antagonist who practices hammer throwing by throwing schoolgirls in the air.
From Nanny McPhee to her role as the enlightened professor in Harry Potter, the interpreter has always had a taste for physical transformation and not afraid to put on makeup for hours.
Netflix Emma Thompson in Matilda.
In Matilda, Emma Thompson seems, scarier than ever, to be having a big day. Already in 2021 she played a big villain in Disney’s Cruella with Emma Stone. For this new film, she is surrounded by Lashana Lynch (Dying can wait) in the role of Miss Candy and Alisha Weir, who plays the title role.
Directed by Matthew Warchus, Matilda tells the story of a unique little girl with extraordinary powers. Coming from a difficult family, she can rely on her teacher, a gentle and understanding woman, who takes her under her wing.
