The heat wave continues to roll over Austria and causes temperatures to rise as high as 34 degrees. Weather experts also warn of thunderstorms.
A weak intermediate high ensures calmer conditions on Thursday, at least away from the mountains, before a strong cold front from a low over the North Atlantic crosses the Alps on Friday, complete with violent thunderstorms and a northwesterly wind that at sometimes it’s stormy. Thanks to a strengthening rally in Central Europe, dry and more stable weather can only be expected across the country over the weekend.
Of Thursday starts with clouds, especially in the eastern half, and occasional rain. During the day the sun appears frequently, in the mountains and hills there will be rain again in the afternoon and heavy storms, especially from Bregenzerwald to the Salzkammergut. Aside from thunderstorms, there is usually only a light wind and temperatures peak at 26 to 34 degrees.
Of Friday it is cloudy and sometimes wet from Vorarlberg to Upper Austria, locally heavy showers and thunderstorms are also spreading from the west in the eastern highlands to central Burgenland. On the other hand, in the Danube region and in the southeast, it often remains dry and sunny. North of the Alps, stronger and temporarily blustery westerly winds will intensify. Great temperature contrasts: from Bregenz to Kitzbühel 16 to 20, from Innsbruck to Linz 21 to 29 and from Klagenfurt to Vienna 30 to 35 degrees.

With predominantly light wind, temperatures rise to 24 to 31 degrees.
