ÖAMTC: Lightning start to summer vacation

Holiday start in eastern Austria, traffic jams, border situation, Ironman Klagenfurt-Wörthersee, cheap refueling, driving ban for not yet active travelers

Vienna (OTS) – “We expect a lightning start to this year’s summer holidays”, predicts mobility information from ÖAMTC. In pre-Corona times, road traffic slowly increased over the first holiday weekends, but this year heavy traffic jams can be expected from the start. “The intense travel traffic in Pentecost has already confirmed the results of the ÖAMTC’s travel monitoring: the desire to travel is great, people are in the departure blocks”, says the ÖAMTC. The weekend will see the starting signal for eastern Austria (Vienna, Lower Austria, Burgenland), the Czech Republic, Slovakia and two German federal states.

stagnation points

Traffic jams are to be expected at times and in sections, especially on the following routes south:

West Autobahn (A1) at Walserberg
South Autobahn (A2) at the Mödling-Vösendorf construction site
East Autobahn (A4) in the Göttlesbrunn-Bruck/Leitha Pyhrn Autobahn (A9) construction site area in the Upper Austria-Styria border area, before the Gleinalm tunnel and before Spielfeld
Tauern Autobahn (A10) especially in the Salzburg area, in the tunnel areas and at the St. Michael
Karawanken Autobahn (A11) in front of the tunnel
Inntal Autobahn (A12) Greater area of Innsbruck and before the border Kufstein Brenner Autobahn (A13 or A22), especially before the construction site on Europabrücke and the Schönberg and Vipiteno toll booths on the South Tyrol Rheintal Autobahn (A14) before the border from Hörbranz Fernpass pass route B179 between Füssen and Vale Inn

situation at the borders

“Currently none of our neighboring countries or Croatia has a 3G certificate, but traffic jams can still be expected at southern border points,” says ÖAMTC tourism. “On Pentecost and Corpus Christi there were also longer delays at Slovenian-Croatian border crossings, especially at Macelj.”

According to the Bavarian state government, flexible border controls in terms of time and location are still possible at all border points with Germany due to the G7 summit. ÖAMTC reminds you that a valid travel document must always be carried when crossing a border.

Ironman Klagenfurt-Wörthersee

Because of the Ironman event, there will be some roadblocks in the greater Wörthersee area on Sunday. The Autobahn south (A2) exits Klagenfurt Minimundus, Klagenfurt Nord and Krumpendorf are also affected.

Cheap refueling – fuel prices in holiday countries

In the main holiday destinations for Austrians, Italy, Croatia and Slovenia, the price level is currently lower than in Austria. “Refueling stops should be planned before starting your trip – this is the best way to avoid expensive gas stations in Germany and abroad,” advises ÖAMTC transport manager Nikola Junick. The potential savings when driving can also be used anytime and anywhere. “Staying on the road true to the “slide rather than run” motto pays off in many ways: A forward-looking driving style not only protects your wallet and the environment, it also allows you to reach your destination more safely” , concludes Junick.

Driving bans for travelers not yet in effect

NOTICE: On the Tauern Autobahn (A10) in Salzburg and in the Tyrolean districts of Innsbruck, Innsbruck Land, Kufstein and Reutte, driving bans on several roads will be imposed from 7th and 9th July for travelers passing through. This is to prevent passing roads from being blocked by alternative traffic in case of long traffic jams on the motorways.
