The Prime Minister received at the Palazzo Chigi eight months after taking office. The summit focused on the Quirinale Treaty and the refugee issue, the war in Ukraine and Italy’s bid for Expo 2030 (on which Rome and Paris remain at odds).
Giorgia Meloni will be received at the Elysée Palace tomorrow, eight months after taking office at Palazzo Chigi. At the end of a secret diplomatic negotiation that took place in the last few hours between the French Presidency and the Italian government, also over the choreography of the visit (the French didn’t want statements to the press, the Italians made them). (one condition), the Italian Prime Minister will hold an official bilateral meeting with the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron, where various issues will be discussed.
It was the Elysée Palace that announced in the afternoon that the main themes of the visit will be the limits of the Quirinal Treaty and its implementation, economic relations between the two countries, the preparation of the European Council at the end of June (and therefore also…). dealing with the refugee issue), reaffirming a clear position on the war in Ukraine and finally preparing the NATO summit on July 10 in Vilnius.
Tomorrow, Meloni will be in Paris for the final phase of the Expo 2030 bids, and on this point at least, France and Italy remain divided. Tomorrow at breakfast, the French President will meet the Korean President, who has his country on the way to Expo 2030, two days ago he met the President of Saudi Arabia, which like Italy is a candidate and can currently count on a larger number of the votes compared to our country and above all, it seems, also the approval of France.
