“Yes, we had to move around a bit, from one meeting point to another, then another, then another. But in the end it went well.” Pascal Hundt, who is regularly responsible for crisis operations at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), including in Ukraine and Somalia, was in Gaza on Friday, November 24th, to attend the exchange of hostages between Hamas and Israel to implement. He was aboard one of the organization’s four SUVs that drove through the Gaza Strip and transported the hostages to Rafah on the Egyptian border before returning them to Israel. On Friday, 24 people were released: 13 Israelis and 11 foreigners – 10 Thais and 1 Filipino.
“We were warned about foreigners at the last moment, that wasn’t planned in the negotiations we knew of, it was a bonus.” Luckily there was enough space in the cars, these are the models with the bench seats at the back, parallel to the road, everyone came easily.
