Patrick Roy new coach of the Islanders: Nicole Bouchard, his former “assistant”, talks about her pride

If there's anyone who's seen Patrick Roy work hard to win in recent years, it's his former “assistant,” Nicole Bouchard, who served as the Remparts' long-time head of media relations before she saw each other officially award each other the title of assistant general manager of the team last year.

And Ms Bouchard made no secret of how “proud” she was of her long-time pal on Saturday, shortly after Roy’s appointment was announced as head coach of the New York Islanders.

“I’m surprised this hasn’t happened before,” she told the Journal. There are a lot of coaches who lost their jobs and I said to myself, “Come on, that doesn’t make sense,” but it took Lou Lamoriello [le directeur général des Islanders] so that this succeeds. It will be a great opportunity for him and I am very happy for him.”

Well deserved

Nicole Bouchard added that Roy “fully deserves what's happening to him, after everything we won with the Remparts last year and after everything he's done since his return.” [dans la LHJMQ, après avoir dirigé l’Avalanche du Colorado]”.

“It's still extraordinary to have put this team together and led it that way to win it all,” she added of the three major awards the Remparts won last year, namely the QMJHL regular season championship , the Gilles Courteau Trophy and the Commemorative Cup.

“It’s 100% up to him.”
