Poland will no longer supply weapons to Ukraine, says PM G1

The USA is considering sending internationally banned weapons to Ukraine

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on Wednesday (20) that his country would no longer supply weapons to Ukraine.

The two countries fell out over a trade dispute. Poland and other European Union countries have banned imports of Ukrainian grain to protect their farmers.

However, on Friday the European Union approved the import of Ukrainian grain ordered in May by five member states (Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Bulgaria and Romania).

Two of these countries, Poland and Hungary, challenged the decision and imposed unilateral embargoes. Ukraine said it would turn to the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Zelensky’s statement to the UN

On Tuesday (19), President Volodymyr Zelensky told the United Nations that his government was making efforts to restart grain export routes in the country and that the “political theater” on the issue was helping Russians.

Poles were uncomfortable with President Volodymyr Zelensky’s statements at the UN.

To signal this, the Polish government urgently summoned the ambassador to protest against President Volodymyr Zelensky’s comments at the United Nations.

Prime Minister Morawiecki even said he would expand the list of banned Ukrainian products if Kiev escalates the grain conflict.

Ukrainian diplomats called on Poland to “put aside emotions” and take a “constructive” approach to the dispute.

The Polish Prime Minister then declared that his country would no longer supply weapons to Ukraine. He explained that he was doing this because Poland was currently looking for more modern weapons itself.

The Prime Minister did not reveal when Poland, one of Ukraine’s most important arms suppliers, stopped its deliveries or whether this was related to the grain conflict.

“We are mainly focusing on modernizing and rapidly arming the Polish army so that it becomes one of the most powerful land armies in Europe in a very short period of time,” he said.

He also said that the military center in the city of Rzeszow, through which Western materials are transported for Ukraine, was functioning normally.
