After several days of heat and thunderstorms, a wave of freshness swept through the regions of Quebec on Saturday.
If the rain continued, the thermometer recorded a significant drop overnight, particularly in the greater Montreal area, where it was just 10 degrees Celsius by early afternoon.
“It’s really a strong start to the season,” meteorologist Gilles Brien said in an interview with LCN.
However, the showers should stop by late afternoon, giving way to cloudy weather ahead of the sun’s scheduled return for Sunday.
The mercury was not higher in either Sherbrooke or Matane, while Quebec hit 14 degrees Celsius around 1 p.m.
However, some are not yet at the end of their sentences, notably residents of Abitibi, where a freeze warning was issued by Environment Canada in the morning.
“Temperatures will drop to near freezing next night,” the agency said in its warning.
“There are also flakes falling [samedi] in Quebec in Schefferville, Fermont, in the far northern regions of Quebec,” the meteorologist also recalled.
The Capitale-Nationale was able to set a cold record overnight from Sunday to Monday, which dates back to 1946 and was 7.4 degrees Celsius.
“With climate change, that doesn’t necessarily mean heat records,” Mr Brien said.
