Colombia’s presidency will be decided next Sunday in a second round between Gustavo Petro, the left-wing candidate who received 40% of the vote, and populist billionaire Rodolfo Hernández with 28%. After election day on Sunday 29 May, in which more than 21 million people took part and which was relatively quiet, the country’s main political figures have gradually announced their support. The right of defeated Federico Gutiérrez turned to Rodolfo Hernández out of “fear of Petro”, while center leaders including Alejandro Gaviria, Mábel Lara and Luis Gilberto Murillo, Sergio Fajardo’s vice-presidential candidate, announced their support for Petro. Fajardo announced his empty voice. The polls put the two finalists in a technical tie.
