Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Ukrainian military intelligence service, spoke of a “failed assassination attempt on Putin”. The news found no confirmation in Moscow

Vladimir Putin is said to have survived an attack two months ago.

This was said during an interview with Ukrainska Pravda Kyrylo Budanov, chief of intelligence at the Kyiv Defense Ministry.

“There was an assassination attempt on Putin,” says the Ukrainian newspaper’s website, which announces that the interview will be published in full in the next few hours.

According to Budanov, unspecified “subjects from the Caucasus regions” attacked the Russian president: “This information is not public. The attempt absolutely failed, but it really happened, about two months ago. I repeat: it was a failed attack. There was no public information about it, but it really happened”.

There is no confirmation from Moscow about a possible attack on the Russian president, nor has Budanov offered any evidence other than his word.

During an interview with Sky News on May 13, Budanov said that Putin “is seriously ill with cancer”, that “a coup is already underway in Russia to replace him” and that “there will be a turning point” in the conflict . It will be ready by mid-August and by the end of the year.”

As reported a week ago, with the conflict taking a much more difficult course than initially predicted, Russian sources had leaked alleged signs of dissatisfaction from the groups closest to the President with the way Putin is conducting “military operation special” in the Ukraine.

However, nothing points to scenarios of attempted coups.

However, the rumors of a possible attack on Putin are not new. As early as late March, some Ukrainian media reported, again without any evidence or source, that the Ukrainian secret service had had indications that a group of influential figures in Russia’s business and political elite had formed and were ready to get rid of Vladimir Putin with “a poisoning or an accident”.

However, Putin – whose state of health is the subject of rumors – is constantly busy with several appointments, which seems to contradict any fear of attacks.

Today, Putin met his longtime ally Aleksandr Lukashenko, the President of Belarus, at his residence in Sochi on the Black Sea.

Lukashenko said he was concerned about what he called “Western attempts to break up Ukraine” and accused Poland of trying to annex the western part of the country. Again, no evidence was offered to support these claims.
