Putin threatens to use more cluster bombs in Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia has “adequate stockpiles” of cluster bombs and intends to use them if Ukraine uses the same type of weapon sent by the United States.

“Of course, we reserve the right to take countermeasures if they are used against us,” Putin said in an interview with state television, excerpts of which were published on Sunday.

Cluster bombs have tremendous destructive power because, in addition to exploding, they create projectiles that are fired at high speed over long distances in all directions, causing death and serious injury in a large radius. They are banned in over 100 countries.

Cluster bombs are already being used by both sides in the conflict. However, there are fears that access to this ammunition on a large scale will eventually affect civilians as well.
