San Jose, April 4th (RHC) The United Nations system in Costa Rica congratulated President-elect Rodrigo Chaves and called on all political forces to join forces and work shoulder to shoulder for the country’s progress.

Chaves of the fledgling Democratic Social Progress Party won the runoff election for this Central American nation’s first magistrate, held this Sunday, with 52.85 percent of the valid votes cast.

In a press release, the UNS-Costa Rica congratulated Rodrigo Chaves and conferred on him and his team the honor and great responsibility of being the new President of that country for the period 2022-2026.

In addition, it expresses its commitment to work closely with the President-elect and the Executive Branch, as well as with the Legislative Assembly, the Judiciary, local governments and other sectors of Costa Rican society within the framework of the values ​​and cooperation of the United Nations.

UNS-Costa Rica Resident Coordinator Allegra Baiocchi said that this nation is “a benchmark for multilateralism, defense of democratic values, respect for human rights, commitment to the climate and the environment.”

The UNS-Costa Rica calls on the authorities to continue working tirelessly to end inequalities and ensure inclusion of those who feel left behind, and to redouble efforts to combat poverty and vulnerability.
