Heat wave in the middle of winter Spain: Temperatures of around 30 degrees Celsius were measured in the south and east of the country on Thursday. According to the Aemet meteorological agency, the thermometer rose in the region in the afternoon Valence on the Mediterranean coast to 29.5 degrees. Just to the south, in the region Murcia was therefore 28.5 degrees and in Malaga 27.8 degrees measured in Andalusia in the south.
The meteorological authority spoke of an “anomaly” in the middle of winter, which means that several temperature records for January were broken in several places in Spain. Temperatures at almost 400 weather stations – and therefore almost all stations – reached or exceeded 20 degrees.

Great drought in Andalusia
The heat wave, which also affected southeastern France, was triggered by a rise in the Mediterranean. Spain has been hit by heatwaves for some time now, there are reports also in December in Malaga 29.9 degrees. At the same time, the country is suffering from a severe drought in Andalusia and Catalonia. According to scientists, current global warming, especially due to the use of fossil fuels, will lead to increasingly unpredictable weather patterns.
