Robbie Coltrane, the actor who played the character Hagrid in Harry Potter, has died at the age of 72. According to website Deadline, the actor’s agent confirmed the death on Friday (14).
Coltrane died in a hospital near his home in Scotland. According to the publication, the actor had a health problem for about two years.
In a statement mourning the actor’s death, the agent described Coltrane as “a unique talent” and explained that Hagrid’s character “has brought joy to children and adults around the world.”
“Personally, I will remember him as a loyal customer. Not only was he a wonderful actor, but he was also intelligent and brilliantly funny. After being proudly called his agent for 40 years, I will miss him dearly,” said Belinda Wright. who at the time still asked for privacy for the family.
In addition to playing the adorable halfgiant, halfwizard Hagrid, the actor has also starred in films such as James Bond and Cracker. With the latter, he won three Bafta Awards for Best Actor for portraying the character Fitz.
Coltrane was also nominated for the awards for his work on the drama National Treasure and the series Tutti Frutti.
Also “Nuns on the Run” and “Mona Lisa” are among the works with the participation of the actor.
In 2006 Coltrane received the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his work as an actor. The actor had two children, Spencer and Alice.
