Robert Downey Jr votes best film of his career: “It’s the best I’ve ever worked on” Best Picture

Robert Downey Jr., the flagship face of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for well over a decade, has been absent from the big screen for three years. After ending his tenures at Marvel Studios in 2019, the actor returned the following year to focus on production with Dolittle, which was not well received by audiences or critics.

Now the beloved star is gearing up for a return in style OppenheimerChristopher’s ambitious blockbuster focused on the personal stories of the eponymous physicist credited with being the father of the atomic bomb and the moral implications of his research. Here, Robert Downey Jr. will play the role of Lewis Strauss, the President of the Atomic Energy Commission, who openly contrasted the film’s eponymous scientist-protagonist with the development of new thermonuclear weapons.

The film is expected to premiere next week and later in the US London premiere of the film, the star revealed the reasons that led him to get involved and take part in the project:

At this point you obviously don’t accept such a role for the money. […] I don’t know why I identify with the character of Lewis Strauss so much, but I felt it I was meant to play this role, and I knew I would be in capable hands. For me, Oppenheimer was a real border crosser.

So the star seems to have made up his mind enthusiastic of the film, a palpable enthusiasm that led him to call it the best I’ve ever worked on:

I will say it very clearly: this is it the best film I’ve ever worked onand I can’t wait for you all to see it.

Words that can only add to the fan hype surrounding Christopher Nolan’s anticipated film. Just recently, the British director defined the acting performance offered by Robert Downey Jr. in “Oppenheimer” as something completely different from previous roles. However, Nolan seems to be comparing the actor’s performance to the performance of the role of Charlie Chaplin, which the star played in the acclaimed 1992 biopic Chaplin, which earned the star an Oscar nomination for Best Actor:

He’s one of our great actors and even though a whole generation of kids know he’s a big movie star, they still haven’t managed to admire him its subtlety and brilliance. I wanted him to do something completely different, lose himself in someone else. When was the last time we saw him? With Chaplin? The directors are keenly aware of Downey’s talent, but given the incredible energy he brings to the screen, it’s difficult to find the right project for him.

Oppenheimer was written and directed by Christopher nolan and is based on the book “American Prometheus: The Triumph and Tragedy of J. Robert Oppenheimer” by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, which earned its authors the prestigious Pulitzer Prize. Production took place in New Mexico, with a studio-guaranteed budget of approximately $100 million.

The cast involved will definitely be “all-star” and will see it Cillian Murphy in the role of J. Robert Oppenheimer himself while Emily Blunt will be his wife, the communist botanist Katherine Oppenheimer. Robert Downey Jr. will be present in the role of Lewis Strauss, Chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission Matt Damon will be Leslie Groves, director of the Manhattan Project. They round out the rest of the cast Kenneth Branagh, Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Josh Hartnett, Dane DeHaan, Jack Quaid, Matthew Modine, Benny Safdie, Michael Angarano, Dylan Arnold, Alden Ehrenreich And David Krumholtz.

The film’s producers include the same Christopher Nolan, assisted by Emma Thomas and Charles Roven.

Oppenheimer will be on the big Italian screens August 23, 2023.
