According to information from Kiev, Russian troops fired again at several targets in Ukraine.

Attacks were reported both in the Donbass region and in the largely destroyed port city of Mariupol. “In the direction of Donetsk, the enemy is carrying out offensive actions along the entire front line,” the Ukrainian general staff said on Saturday. The strongest Russian attacks are aimed at the city of Sievjerodonetsk in the Luhansk region.

Two dead in Kiev

In addition, the General Staff reports that the assault attempts on Rubischne, Popasna and Marjinka were repulsed. According to Kiev, two people were killed and two others were wounded by artillery fire in Solote. According to local authorities, the port city of Odessa was the target of a rocket attack. Infrastructure has been hit. The Russian army has resumed attacks on the Azovstal steelworks in Mariupol, sources said. Moscow Patriarch Kirill called for peace ahead of the upcoming Orthodox Easter, but avoided criticism of the fighting.

Russian forces also claimed to have destroyed more than 20 ammunition depots in Ukraine. Air-launched missiles and tactical air force destroyed three depots each, while missile forces destroyed another 16 ammunition depots, Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said. Reports cannot be independently verified. A total of 66 Ukrainian military objects were hit by the air force and up to 1,098 objects by rocket and artillery forces.

Planned “provocation”

Meanwhile, the Russian military has announced that it will put its new Sarmat ICBM into service in the fall. The Kremlin also accused the US of planning a “provocation” to force Russia to use weapons of mass destruction in Ukraine.

About two months after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, UN Secretary-General António Guterres plans to visit Russia and Ukraine next week. After Putin’s reception in Moscow on Tuesday, Guterres will travel to Ukraine and meet President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday, among others.
