Moscow, 23 May (EFE).- Russia stressed today that the majority of Latin American countries oppose the imposition of a Ukrainian agenda by the United States at the Summit of the Americas from 6 to 10 June in Los Angeles.

“Most Latin American countries are showing that they do not want to unconditionally submit to the demands of the Biden administration to discuss the Russian special military operation in Ukraine and to join the West in anti-Russian sanctions,” says the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR). ) of Russia in a statement.

The note underscores that Mexico, Argentina and Bolivia do not share the summit’s agenda or Washington’s plans not to invite Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua.

“Many Latin American leaders are willing to forgo personal participation in the act if Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua are not present,” he says.

The SVR adds: “Instead of isolating Russia and Latin America, the US and its allies in Ukraine have isolated themselves.”

As a result, a real threat of cancellation of the America Summit has already arisen.

In his opinion, the White House fears that attempts to persuade countries in the region to support his policies could create “obstacles” in the fight against illegal immigration, drug trafficking, organized crime and also “the containment of China”.

“Washington is once again held hostage to its own Russophobia. Attempts to impose the Western position in Ukraine on Latin Americans have had the opposite effect,” he points out.

He also stresses that the US faces a difficult dilemma: “Achieve the consolidation of Latin American countries under US aegis or continue to push through the anti-Russian agenda at the regional level.”

The SVR believes that “common sense” seems to have prevailed for the time being and the US has decided to “silence” the Ukraine issue for the time being in dialogue with the countries of the region in order to “create the conditions for a successful implementation of the agreement”. Summit of the Americas”.

Biden plans to invite Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaidó to the summit instead of the South American country’s President Nicolás Maduro.

A few days ago, the US State Department confirmed that it would not invite Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela to the next summit because they “do not respect” democracy.

For this reason, the leaders of the Caribbean Community (Caricom) are considering boycotting the event, as reported on Sunday. EFE
