Russia is doing everything it can to stop the counteroffensive, says Zelenskyy

According to the Ukrainian President, the Moscow armed forces are using all means to stop the Kiev soldiers

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Russia was using all its forces to prevent Ukrainian troops from launching a counteroffensive.

“We must all be very clear, and as clear as possible, that the Russian armed forces in our southern and eastern areas are doing everything they can to stop our soldiers,” Zelensky said on Friday (07/14/2023). “Every success of every combat brigade deserves our thanks,” he said. Russia controls large parts of the Ukrainian territory in the east, south and southeast of the country. In early June, Zelenskyy declared that Ukraine was ready to recapture the territories occupied by Russia.

“I don’t know how long it will take. Honestly, it can happen in many ways, completely different. But we will do it and we are ready,” he said at the time.

Zelenskyi met with the military on Friday (July 14). After the meeting, Ukrainian General Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, commander of Ukraine’s forces in the south, said his troops were working to “systematically” withdraw Russian forces from the occupied territories.

Ukrainian President Andriy Yermak’s chief of staff said fighting had been fierce for Ukrainian forces and the offensive “didn’t progress as quickly” as might have been expected.
