A Ukrainian couple who fled the war two years ago found refuge in Quebec with a family from Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures.

Yulia is a trained teacher and speaks French. However, since her diploma is not recognized by the Ministry of Education, she currently works as a cashier at Canadian Tire.
In her opinion, the war is not over yet and although she cannot teach here, she decides to make this sacrifice so that her boy does not have to suffer the horrors of this conflict.
“Russia will not stop,” she said. The Russian government has always wanted to occupy our territory. All Ukrainians know this.”
“I am very afraid for my son,” she adds. I don't want him to go to war in 20 years, so it's better for him to stay here. I will accept this for my son. I don't think about myself, not even about my husband. We think of our son. Our child is the most important thing to us.”
Yulia and Mykola must deal with the uncertainty of the future as their work permits expire in May 2025.
About 220,000 Ukrainians like Yulia and Mykola have received asylum in Canada since the start of the war between Ukraine and Russia.
