“Separate but together”: a first tour for two for comedians Marylène Gendron and Sam Cyr

Building on the success of their podcast Everyone hates everyone elseComedians Sam Cyr and Marylène Gendron are teaming up again for another project: the tour Separate but togetherexpected to be on our stages in the coming months.

While the popular podcast Tout le monde s'hait – winner of an Olivier in 2022 – has made their names inseparable for many, Sam Cyr and Marylène Gendron have never shared the stage for a proper comedy show. And although their tour promises to bring them on stage one after the other, the two accomplices want to perform at least one number together, as a duo.

They are currently working on this idea with the help of actress Pascale Renaud-Hébert, who is responsible for its production.

“Most of the show will be one-on-one, but we would like to do a joint number to bring the dynamic of our podcast to the stage, at the beginning or at the end. We still have to find the right way to make it natural and authentic,” explains Sam Cyr.

“We perform regularly, but always solo, each for themselves. And doing a stand-up act as a duo is a completely different art form; We don’t want to disappoint or simply not be up to the task because it is an aspect of the job that we are less familiar with,” adds Marylène Gendron.

Past and future

The rest of the show will therefore remain true to the title “Separate but together” and the two comedians will each take turns offering 45 minutes of new material. The topics discussed on the panels are as diverse as their respective personalities.

While Sam Cyr is more inspired by the past and nostalgia, Marylène Gendron prefers to project into the future. The first therefore deals, among other things, with his arrival in Montreal in the 2010s – and also refers to his first sexual relationship – while the second part aims to articulate his part about the dangers of celibacy and the taming of loneliness.

“Even when we talk about similar topics or overlapping topics, we talk about them in such different ways that we'll never really step on each other's toes. “We complement each other in this respect and I think that’s why it was logical for us to do this tour together before presenting our individual shows in the future,” says Marylène Gendron.

“Everyone Hates Each Other” fans can sleep easy: the Separated but Together tour won’t slow down the frequency of releasing future episodes. Material is already planned until next June.

“They will continue to air every week. We will not be doing a residency at the Lion d'Or as we have done in the past, but there could well be a special event on stage before the Separated but Together tour begins,” says Marylène Gendron.

The lead-up to Separated but Together begins March 6 at the Terminal Comédie Club in Montreal. The exhibition premieres on October 16th at the Cinquième Salle at Place des Arts. For all appointments: sametmarylene.com
