This week, a 20-year-old woman was fatally electrocuted when she took her laundry out of the machine too soon. She was buried on Thursday June 16, 2022 and is survived by her husband and baby boy, who was born a few months earlier.
A horrible end to life… Viviane Rodrigues, a 20-year-old mother, did her laundry at her home in Juazeiro, northeastern Brazil, this week. The young woman was fatally electrocuted when she put her hand in the washing machine, thinking her cycle was over. Investigators in the case said she suffered severe shock while trying to retrieve her clothes. Her husband immediately took her to the emergency room at the local hospital. Unfortunately, Viviane Rodrigues – mother of a nine-month-old son – was pronounced dead on arrival. After an autopsy, his body was transported to the rural community of Gameleira do Di, in the municipality of Campo Formoso, where his family lives. She was buried in Gameleira do Di on Thursday 16 June 2022.
This isn’t the only washing machine tragedy reported in recent years. A year earlier, a young child died after being found inside the switched-on device. A spokesman said officers were alerted to an incident in Christchurch, New Zealand. It said: “One person was injured and taken to hospital, where he later died. The police are investigating the circumstances of the death.” The potential dangers of washing machines and children have been widely reported. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, There have been reports of at least three deaths of children under the age of five from washing machines since 2014. 3000 people would also have gone to the emergency room because of their device.
Why a child should not be left near a washing machine
In a statement, the nonprofit group reminded Consumer Reports: “It is important for parents to explain to their young children that the devices are not toys and that they can be dangerous. It’s also important to report any potential danger to anyone who will be supervising your children while you’re away.” Finally, it added: “Remember this Toddlers are in a development phase that makes them particularly curious.“
