She was showered with hot coffee: a Dunkin Donuts restaurant has to pay her $4 million

A Dunkin’ Donuts store in Atlanta will have to pay $3 million (C$4.1 million) to a woman who sued after hot coffee was spilled on her legs.

The woman, whose identity has not been released, claims the hot drink caused her burns and “life-threatening” injuries in February 2021, CNN reports.

The incident apparently occurred because the cup lid was not properly secured.

The complainant suffered third degree burns.

The injuries would have cost the woman more than $200,000 (C$275,000).

The franchise therefore decided to agree to pay the plaintiff US$3 million (C$4.1 million) to end the litigation.

The Dunkin Donuts banner, which is not mentioned in the dispute, did not respond to CNN’s questions on the matter, nor did the franchise outlet in question.
