Sherbrooke Police Service (SPS) were called to search for a vehicle that had crashed into trees at the intersection of Allard and Galvin Streets around 8:30 p.m.
The witness to the scene told police that the guilty driver “continued driving with his lights off, four flat tires and smoke coming out of his vehicle.”
The suspect was eventually intercepted on Moulton Hill Road.
“After a very brief conversation with the 74-year-old driver, the police officers arrested him for driving under the influence of alcohol,” said the SPS.
The seventy-year-old was released after failing a breathalyzer test. His driver’s license was confiscated and his vehicle was confiscated. He will appear in court at a later date.
The driver isn’t the only one to have taken the wheel during the weekend at Sherbrooke while disabled. A 34-year-old man was also arrested on Friday night for driving with a disability after driving into a parked car. The man had exceeded the legal alcohol limit more than twice.
Also that same night, a young 19-year-old man intoxicated with drugs was intercepted in a parking lot, where his condition was so worrying that he had to be assessed by paramedics.
